Always one step ahead of System Failures
Being communicated is the greatest need today. Everyone carries a small mobile device to locate or be located, because it avoids having to move from one place to another simply to have a quick and concise conversation. Imagine how shocking this is when doing business. Clients of this time expect to solve their doubts with just one call, because they want to be sure of selecting the right provider but they don’t have time to visit each one, so, they will start discarding and reducing the list by calling.
Only with this example it is easy to realize that being incommunicado can generate economic losses to your company when your phone system goes offline. But it is difficult to know the exact moment when a computer equipment presents some type of failure in a disk, the power source or any other piece of vital importance in the hardware. It is even more difficult to determine when a natural disaster event could affect the geographic area where your main equipment is located. Or things as simple as being without an internet connection go out of hand.
When this type of incident revolves around the IP telephony service of your company, you will ask yourself: What can we do? The truth is that we can find several solutions in the market that adapt to the type of business you manage, everything depends on which perspective you want or need to be covered. To facilitate understanding and prevent you from navigating in a sea of overly broad and unknown opportunities, we have compiled for you the 2 most common and simplest to implement:
1.- Have a Spare: it is nothing more than having exactly the same equipment. Solution that is usually used to deal with damage to the main hardware.
a) Warm Spare: this spare will be the backup of your Main PBX, which is configured exactly the same (using even the same licenses) so that it becomes operational when the main one is offline, but the process is manual.
b) PBX with High Availability: it is a configuration that requires 2 Central Telephone servers (each with its independent licensing), which will be in constant monitoring and synchronization. When the principal fails immediately the secondary begins to work. The process is automatic.
c) Failover Gateway: The Failover feature on the gateway allows you to switch back-up automatically in seconds and your phone system will be walking as if nothing had happened.
2.- Have a backup in the cloud: it consists of having a main appliance and a server in the cloud as a backup, so you can avoid running out of communications when a catastrophe occurs in your main facilities or simply losing your connection to the internet.
a) Regarding the PBX: it will have 2 telephone systems with all the configuration of its users, so if they can not register to the main telephone system, they do so to the secondary one that is in the cloud.
b) Regarding the Gateway: it must have the characteristic of survivability, which in case of SIP failure, those phones on-site can communicate with each other and to the PSTN (if connected) and make emergency calls.
Finally you can have one or all of these options depending on your specific needs and abilities.
